At Laser Skin & Wellness, we use the latest medical treatments available to help patients achieve weight loss goals and maintain a healthy weight long-term. One option now available to patients in Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens is Semaglutide. This medication will promote weight loss and is available as part of an overall weight loss program with the guidance of our experienced medical professionals.

Achieve a Healthy Weight

A large percentage of Americans struggle with their weight, whether they fall into overweight or obese categories. Losing weight with diet and exercise alone can be difficult, especially for those who have other health conditions related to their excess weight. Semaglutide can allow patients to lose weight with greater success when paired with lower calorie intake and regular exercise.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a medication that was originally developed for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. While originally intended to help these patients control their high blood sugar levels, it can also be useful for adults who are overweight or obese and want to lose weight. In particular, Semaglutide is prescribed for those whose excess weight is a contributing factor in other health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.

How Does Semaglutide Work?

Semaglutide is prescribed alongside a diet and exercise plan as part of an overall weight loss program. This includes a diet plan with healthy foods developed by a nutrition educator and an exercise program which suits your lifestyle and ability.

Semaglutide dosage varies based on the starting weight of the patient. The medication is administered through a weekly injection, which can be completed at home after instruction from a medical professional.

Semaglutide mimics the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1, or GLP-1, which regulates appetite and food intake. While taking Semaglutide, patients will find it easier to follow a weight loss diet, allowing them to lose weight safely and gradually. Steady weight loss over time is often the best way to prevent weight gain from coming back because the patient has time to adjust to their new balanced diet with weight loss-friendly foods.

How Long Does Semaglutide Treatment Take?

Initial Semaglutide treatments occur over the course of 16 weeks. Through the course of the treatment, patients will receive gradually increasing doses of Semaglutide as they continue to eat a reduced-calorie diet and follow an exercise plan as developed by their nutrition educator. At week 17, patients may then receive maintenance injections of 2.4 mg.

Weight loss plans may vary in length for each patient, depending on the amount of weight you want to lose and other health considerations. During a consultation, your weight loss specialist will determine an appropriate plan for you.

When Will I See Semaglutide Results?

During Semaglutide treatment, patients gradually lose weight with an average of about 2% of their total body weight lost in the first four weeks of treatment. As you lose weight, you should also see related conditions improve over time. In most cases, patients will reach weight loss goals within a year of treatment and have better outcomes maintaining their new weight compared to those who do not take Semaglutide. During a consultation, your projected weight loss according to your individual program can be explained.
