Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, can cause extreme embarrassment and discomfort. Neuromodulator injections and Brella patches are safe and effective methods to reduce symptoms of hyperhidrosis. How Does Hyperhidrosis Treatment Work?

The body has two different types of sweat glands: eccrine and apocrine. The eccrine sweat glands are everywhere and regulate the body’s temperature. Apocrine sweat glands are in the armpits, groin, and breast areas. These areas produce sweat when the body is triggered by pain, distress, fear, and stimulation. Hyperhidrosis treatments focus on addressing the apocrine sweat glands.

We offer Hyperhidrosis injections at our office, including Jeuveau, Dysport, and Botox. Hyperhidrosis treatment works through the injection of botulinum toxin type A. The toxin can help minimize overactive sweat glands’ activity. The injection involves a diluted formulation of the toxin in small amounts.

Another treatment we offer for hyperhidrosis is Brella. The Brella treatment is a single-use disposable sodium patch that is applied to the armpit area of the patient for three minutes. This non-invasive treatment works when heat energy is generated. This happens when the sodium in the patch comes in contact with the water in sweat. When the Brella patch is applied, a micro thermal injury to the sweat glands occurs. This prevents the glands from producing sweat for around two to four months.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Botulinum toxin injections are most effective for areas with concentrated levels of sweat. These areas typically contain the apocrine sweat glands. The hyperhidrosis treatment can treat the armpit areas, palms, face, head, and feet. Brella patches can be applied to the armpit area.

About Your Treatment

Botulinum Toxin Type A Treatment

Your hyperhidrosis treatment will be performed by a licensed medical professional in-office. This quick 30-minute treatment will begin with the cleansing of the treatment area. Afterward, your injector specialist may mark the injection locations. Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to reduce any discomfort you may feel. Multiple injections are made in the treatment area, and you will soon notice a decrease in sweat.

Brella Treatment

During the Brella treatment, your provider will clean off the treatment area. They will then place the patch on your armpit for a few minutes only. During this time, your sweat glands will be damaged, causing significant sweat reduction.

Results and Recovery

After your hyperhidrosis treatment, you will be released from the office and can enjoy the rest of your day as usual. Patients who receive injections may experience bruising, swelling, itchiness, and redness in their treatment area. Your neurotoxin treatment will last four to twelve months. Patients receiving the Brella patch treatments may experience slight redness and swelling lasting less than two weeks. Your Brella treatment will last between two to four months.

What Does Treatment Feel Like?

You should not feel any pain during your injectable treatment because of the numbing cream used on the treatment area during your injection. Brella patients typically do not feel any discomfort during treatment.
