What is Dysport®?

The Dysport injectable is an FDA-approved treatment used to reduce the appearance of frown lines and forehead lines. Botulinum toxin products assessed by the FDA are approved for cosmetic injection. Although the Dysport formulation contains botulinum toxin type A, similar to Botox, the formulations are made differently, and the treatments require a different number of units. Dysport can treat a larger area with fewer units of product needed.

Repetitive facial expressions require the contraction of facial muscles. These movements can affect how your skin appears as you age. This is because the skin does not produce as much collagen or elastin, the skin becomes thinner, and you begin to lose subcutaneous fat, making the skin more sensitive to repetitive muscle movements in the face. Dysport reduces this muscle activity, allowing moderate to severe frown lines to diminish.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

The Dysport treatment is intended for use on the frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport involves multiple injection sites around the eyebrows to distribute the formulation into the targeted muscles evenly.

About Your Treatment

Your Dysport treatment will begin with a professional injector specialist marking your treatment area and applying a numbing cream to the area. Once your treatment area is numbed, they will inject around five different sites around the treatment area. The treatment lasts between five to ten minutes.

Am I a Candidate for Dysport?

Candidates for Dysport injectable treatments include individuals in good health who do not smoke and who have moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Patients looking to soften their facial lines and minimize muscle movement are ideal candidates for Dysport. This treatment is suitable for both men and women experiencing the effects of aging skin.

What Does Treatment Feel Like?

Because a topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area, you may experience no discomfort or pain during your Dysport injectable treatment. You may encounter mild injection site pain and slight pressure during the injections if you opt to receive treatment without any numbing. After your treatment, you can experience some injection site discomfort, tenderness, bruising, muscle weakness, and injection site swelling. These side effects will be manageable and fade within a few days. Tell your doctor if you experience any serious hypersensitivity reactions to botulinum toxins, such as breathing difficulties and issues with swallowing or respiratory function.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

After your Dysport injectable procedure, you may experience the temporary side effects of Dysport, including mild swelling and bruising around the treatment area. This will fade within a few short days. Most patients will begin to see the effects of Dysport working its magic within two days post-treatment. It can take up to two weeks for the full effects of Dysport to emerge.

How Often Should I Schedule Treatments?

Dysport treatments offer temporary improvement, but patients enjoy their results for up to four months. At this point, most of our patients return for a follow-up session to maintain their Dysport® results. The Laser Skin & Wellness team recommends that patients schedule their first three treatments about twelve weeks apart. Afterward, the following treatments may be scheduled sixteen weeks apart.

What is the difference between Dysport® and Botox?

Dysport is one other botulinum toxin product used to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. We offer both of these wrinkle-reducing products at Laser Skin & Wellness. Both of these products offer similar results. Some patients may prefer one over the other. We feel confident that both of these are great options that our patients will be happy with.
