A receding hairline can occur due to age-related hair loss caused by genetics, hormone changes, and scalp irritation. Although this condition can affect your confidence, there are many treatment options available, including follicular unit transplantation. The follicular unit transplantation treatment is a hair replacement surgery that can restore the balding areas on your scalp to achieve thick and healthy hair.

How Does the Follicular Unit Transplantation Treatment Work?

The follicular unit transplantation treatment is a surgical procedure performed by one of our highly educated doctors at Laser Skin and Wellness. During your surgery, a hair restoration surgeon will cut a strip of skin from the back of your head, where they will perform follicular unit extraction to gather your individual hair follicles for transplantation. The follicles will then be meticulously inserted into the balding areas on your scalp. The hair will soon grow and blend in naturally with the rest of your hair.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

The hair transplant surgery works best for individuals who are experiencing a receding hairline caused by hereditary pattern baldness. This hair restoration treatment offers a high rate of follicle survival with minimal signs of surgery in the treatment areas.

About Your Treatment

Your treatment will begin with your doctor carefully cleansing the treatment area and administering local anesthesia to numb any discomfort during the treatment. The follicular unit transplantation procedure will require a strip of healthy skin and hair tissue from the back of your head. Your surgeon will carefully remove the strip and individually remove each healthy follicle for transplantation. The follicles will then be gently placed along your balding hairline, where you desire more hair growth. The donor incision will be sutured shut and you will be monitored and sent home.

Results and Recovery

After your donor incision is closed, the area will begin to heal, leaving a very small scar that will be concealed under the surrounding hair on the back of your head. Over time, you will begin to see your transplanted hair grow in your treatment area. This hair transplantation treatment allows you to enjoy multiple follicle transfers in one quick session. Your hair regrowth will begin three to five months after your hair restoration surgery. It can take up to 12 to 16 months for your hair transplants to fully regrow. After your hair has grown, you can enjoy the long-lasting benefits of follicular unit transplantation.

What Does Treatment Feel Like?

Since local anesthesia is administered to the treatment area during your procedure, you will not feel any pain or discomfort at that time. After your treatment and as the anesthesia begins to wear off, you may experience mild soreness and discomfort as you heal. It is important that you avoid contact with the treatment area to minimize any unnecessary discomfort or pain.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Candidates for follicular unit transplantation include individuals in good health who do not smoke and who want to naturally enhance their hairline with minimal scarring. This cosmetic surgery treatment is ideal for both men and women who experience a balding hairline, thinning hair, and exposure of their scalp skin.
