Create Defined Eyebrows with Microblading

Eyebrow microblading is a hair restoration treatment that uses a needle-ornamented pen to deposit ink into the skin to enhance the shape and pigmentation of the eyebrows. The tip of the pen is extremely thin, allowing your skin specialist to make detailed hair-like strokes that encapsulate the look of your natural eyebrow hair.

How Does the Microblading Treatment Work?

The microblading treatment will begin with your skincare specialist matching the ink color to your natural brow color. They will then map out the shape of your new brow to guide their treatment. Once you approve of the shape and shade chosen, numbing cream will be applied, and your treatment area will be prepped. Once you are numb, the microneedling pen device will be loaded with ink, and your specialist will meticulously and carefully draw hair-like strokes onto your eyebrows. This will give the illusion of naturally full and perfected brows. The microblading needles address the superficial layers of skin, making this a semi-permanent tattoo-like treatment.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

The microblading treatment will address sparse areas of the brows. This permanent makeup treatment can address balding areas of your brows or areas that you wish were darker or thicker.

About Your Treatment

Your microblading procedure will begin with your brow professional cleansing the treatment area. They will then match the correct color ink to your natural brow shade and start mapping out your new brow in your desired shape. After you have approved the brow shape, your brow artist will use the microblading device to create hair-like strokes in the outer layers of your skin. After your treatment is complete, you will be given detailed aftercare instructions and will be released with your new and improved natural looking brow. Depending on your case, the treatment usually takes approximately one to two hours.

Results and Recovery

After your treatment, it is crucial to keep the eyebrows dry during the healing process. You should not let water, skincare products, or makeup touch the eyebrows for the first week after your microblading treatment. You should also avoid strenuous physical activity, swimming, hot tubbing, sun exposure, drinking alcohol, and touching your microbladed brows while you are healing. During your brow tattoo recovery, the eyebrows may itch and flake as they heal. Most patients receive a touchup six weeks after their initial treatment. After your treatment, microblading can last twelve months to three years.

What Does Treatment Feel Like?

Your microblading treatment will be painless and comfortable. Since numbing cream is applied by your cosmetic tattoo artist, you will not experience any feelings of pain or discomfort. You may feel a slight pressure in the treatment area as the device carefully deposits ink into your skin.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Candidates for microneedling include individuals with thin brows seeking fuller-looking and more defined eyebrows. This treatment can remove the headache of applying daily makeup to the brows. Those with oily skin may not have the right skin type for treatment. Extremely oily skin can affect the healing of brow tattoos, causing the ink to fade quickly. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for microblading is through an in-depth one-on-one consultation with one of our microblading providers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is microblading, and how does it differ from traditional tattooing?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure creating individual hair-like strokes using a handheld blade, depositing pigment into the upper dermis—much less invasive than traditional tattooing.

  • How long does microblading last?

Results typically last between 1–3 years, depending on skin type, immune response, and lifestyle.

  • Is microblading painful?

Discomfort is minimal; most clients describe a sensation similar to light scratching. Topical anesthetics are used to minimize pain.

  • How long does the procedure take?

The appointment usually spans 2–3 hours, including consultation, mapping, numbing, and microblading itself.

  • What should I do to prepare for my microblading appointment?

Avoid blood thinners (like aspirin or alcohol), retinols or chemical peels, and sun exposure for several days prior.

  • What is the healing process like?

Expect dark, bold brows initially, followed by light flaking and gradual reveal of the final softer color over 4–6 weeks.

  • What aftercare steps should I follow?

Keep the area clean and dry, avoid water, makeup, sun, saunas, sweat, and exfoliants during the healing phase, typically one week or more.

  • When should I schedule my touch-up session?

A follow-up is recommended 4–6 weeks after the initial procedure. Thereafter, annual or 12–18 month refreshers help maintain pigment.

  • Will microblading look natural?

Yes—artists create realistic hair strokes for a natural brow appearance.

  • Can everyone get microblading?

Not always. It may not suit individuals with oily or sensitive skin, certain medical conditions, or those using certain skincare/medications. A consultation is essential.

  • Is microblading safe? What are the potential risks?

It’s generally safe when performed by a trained professional using sterile tools, but risks include infection, pigment migration, allergic reactions, or granuloma formation.

  • Can microblading fade differently on different people?

Yes—factors like skin type (oily vs. dry), skincare routine (e.g., use of acids or retinols), sun exposure, and products affect pigment retention and fading.

  • What happens to the brows during the healing process?

Brows may appear darker initially, then flake or lighten, settling into the final color in a few weeks. Itching is common and signals healing.

  • Can microblading be done if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Most studios advise against microblading during pregnancy or breastfeeding for safety and hormonal reasons. Always consult with your technician or doctor first.

  • How does microblading compare to alternatives like brow lamination?

Microblading provides semi-permanent, hair-like strokes lasting 1–3 years, while brow lamination gives a temporary styled look lasting 4–8 weeks.

  • Are there different microblading techniques like shading or microfeathering?

Yes. Techniques like microshading (powdered effect), microfeathering (filling sparse hairs), and microblading offer different finishes and durability.

  • Can microblading hide scars or fill in hair loss?

Yes—microblading is a popular solution for those with sparse brows, including due to hair loss or scarring.

  • What if I’ve had previous eyebrow tattoos or treatments?

You may need a consultation to assess whether microblading can correct or cover existing work, or if alternative techniques are advised.

  • Will microblading show up on an MRI or interfere with medical imaging?

Rarely, but certain pigments may react; inform your medical provider before undergoing imaging.
