What is Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is an injectable formula containing poly-L-lactic acid. Unlike other fillers, such as hyaluronic acid formulas that simply fill in lines and wrinkles, Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production for natural volume that keeps improving with time. This makes Sculptra® Aesthetic a popular solution when it comes to improving common signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, hollow under eyes and temples, flattened cheeks and acne scarring.

How Does it Work?

Sculptra® Aesthetic works with the body to rebuild collagen below the skin. When its poly-L-lactic acid formula is placed under the skin where volume loss is present, it is dissolved by the body and replaced with natural collagen. With new collagen in place, there is also more support for elastin and hyaluronic acid, giving the skin a youthful, supple appearance. Sculptra dissolves slowly, leading to improvements that continue over time. With a few touchup sessions, you can find long-lasting results with Sculptra for volume loss and signs of aging.

How Long Does Treatment and Recovery Take?

Treatment with Sculptra® Aesthetic is quick and relatively comfortable with the help of a topical anesthetic. Your practitioner at Laser Skin & Wellness will map out the points of injection, depending on your concerns and goals. A small amount of Sculptra® Aesthetic will then be placed under the skin in several points, ensuring an even distribution. This is a relativity quick process, taking about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. For optimal results, we recommend a series of treatments spaced out over several months.

Because Sculptra® Aesthetic is nonsurgical, you can expect to get right back to your regular routine with no downtime. You might experience some redness and slight swelling at the injection points, but this should resolve in a few hours. Soreness is expected the next day and we recommend gently massaging the areas of injection for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for the next couple of days.

How Quickly Can I See Results?

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, the results of Sculptra® Aesthetic are not instant and will be gradual as your natural collagen begins to take its place. This can take several months and will appear subtly at first, eventually resulting in diminished lines and wrinkles and overall improved quality of the skin. While one treatment session can give you improvements, we typically recommend a series of two to three treatment sessions. This can give you results that last for up to two years before a touchup session is needed.

How Often Should I Schedule Treatments?

When you first start treatment with Sculptra® Aesthetic, several sessions may be required to boost your collagen production. Typically we recommend 1 vial per decade but the number of treatments you need to begin with, will depend on the severity of your concerns. You can expect two to three treatment sessions scheduled over the next three to six months. After this time, most patients experience the maximum results from their Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment. While these results can last for up to two years, you may want to start your touchup sessions sooner than that, ensuring that you maintain strong, smooth skin. This may only require one or two treatments per year.
