Cellulite…that dreaded word that strikes fear in the hearts of so many women (and even some men!).
Why is it so scary? Because although it has to do with the body’s fat cells, it does not respond to diet and exercise the way excess fat does.
It does not have everything to do with being overweight; even skinny people can struggle with the problem.
But what causes cellulite, and how can you help prevent it?
Causes
It appears when fat cells are packed tightly and pushed too hard against connective tissue, causing the lumpy “cottage cheese” appearance. It is exceedingly common–as much as 90-95% of women suffer from cellulite of some degree.
It is more common in fair-skinned people, as the “orange peel” appearance is more noticeable. Some factors that can influence its formation include:
Prevention
It is difficult to prevent, but the steps for reducing the risk and impact that may form are fairly simple, and can prove otherwise beneficial.
First, drink more water! A well-hydrated body can flush out excess fluids and fat, both of which contribute to the appearance. A good rule to follow is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily. For example, if you weight 150 pounds, you should be drinking 75 ounces of water each day.
Next, be sure to eat a high fiber diet that is low in fat, refined carbohydrates, and sodium is a good place to start. Be sure to get enough exercise, and if you have a desk job, get up and move around as much as possible.
Finally, avoid harmful habits such as smoking, which negatively affect collagen formation and circulation.
Treatments
Because cellulite is so common, experts are continually working toward better treatments for the problem. In just the past few years, the number of options for treatment has grown exponentially.
Two non-invasive treatments that specifically target this issue:
ReactionTM by Viora
A combination treatment that uses both radiofrequency and vacuum therapy technology, ReactionTM is a non-invasive treatment that is safe and effective on all skin types.
ReactionTM works to reduce it by stimulating blood circulation, lymph drainage, and skin tightening. The treatment may also help firm and slightly contour the area.
Results appear gradually following treatment and multiple treatments are needed for optimal results.
Resolution Cellulite® System by ResolutionMD
For those who want to complete their treatments at home, the Resolution Cellulite® System may be the right choice.
Three products included in the system are: body wash, renewal cream, and firming moisturizer which are used on a daily basis to reduce and promote beautiful, smoother skin.
