Preventing and Treating Cellulite
Cellulite is a frustrating problem to deal with, and unfortunately, almost all women have to deal with it to some degree.
It is far more common in women than in men, with over 90% of women suffering from it.
Most commonly, it appears on the back of the legs, thighs and buttocks. Even slender women are not exempt, because although cellulite involves fat, it is not necessarily an indication of being overweight.
The lumpy, “cottage cheese” texture occurs when small pockets of fat press up against fibrous connective tissue, producing protruding lumps. It can also produce an “orange peel” look, resulting in small depressions appearing on the skin.
It is difficult to prevent if you don’t know what to avoid, but there are steps you can take to ease the appearance of this problem.
How to Prevent Cellulite
Naturally, prevention is the easiest way to deal with this issue. Unfortunately, prevention is not always possible, but there are steps you can take toward preventing it, all which have additional benefits to your overall health.
Here are some ways to help prevent it:
- Eat a healthy, high-fiber diet that is low in sugar and sodium.
- Exercise regularly to keep body fat in check and to help keep circulation functioning properly.
- Massage the affected areas to encourage circulation.
- Drink lots of water (drink half your body weight in ounces every day!).
What to Avoid
Just as you can help prevent it with good lifestyle choices, you can also trigger the problem. Avoid the following to help keep cellulite at bay:
- Excessive drinking
- Eating packaged, refined, or processed foods (high fat, sugar and salt content)
- Avoid tight undergarments, which can restrict circulation to the legs
When Prevention Isn’t Enough
Sometimes, there are factors in play that will encourage the formation no matter what you do. These factors include genetics, age, and hormonal fluctuations due to pregnancy or age.
Fortunately, there are now a number of non-invasive treatments available, some of which you can use at home. Two proven methods that we use for our clients include:
The ReactionTM system uses heat in a unique, new approach to treatment. Their CORETM uses three different radiofrequencies along with vacuum therapy to help encourage:
- Lymphatic drainage (reduces fluid retention)
- Increased circulation (fluids can move around better)
- Fat cell volume reduction (lipolysis, or fat loss)
- Boosts collagen production and skin elasticity (tighter skin)
CORETM technology in ReactionTM targets three different layers of skin tissue from the outside to two additional layers deep (hypodermis). The heat produced during treatment allows for mechanical stretching of the skin, which promotes the production of collagen among other benefits.
For best results, patients should plan on at least six to eight 30-minute treatments, with some maintenance required afterward. The treatment involves no downtime, so patients can get back to their lives immediately.
