What is BOTOX®?

How Does It Work?

The primary cause of issues like crow’s feet and frown lines are the repeated contractions of facial muscles from squinting and yes, you guessed it, frowning. As these contractions continue over the years, the effects will start to be displayed and then increase. These issues may lead to vision problems or chronic migraines– botulinum toxin treatment can alleviate blurred vision, migraine headaches, and double vision.

BOTOX® injections target specific facial muscles within these problem areas. It then chemically blocks the impulses to the muscle from the nerve signals, resulting in the relaxation of the muscle and preventing fine lines and wrinkles. In short, when injected into the area, the formula will temporarily reduce activity in nearby muscles.

After the session, the injections of botulinum toxin make a smoother and softer appearance in the treatment area, while at the same time, any untreated muscles continue to contract in a normal fashion. This method allows your facial expression as well as your sensation to be genuinely unchanged. As time progresses, you will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet and frown lines.

How Long Does Treatment and Recovery Take?

After your initial consultation, the procedure itself should take about 10 minutes or less. The recovery time is essentially non-existent, so you should be able to resume your regular activities immediately upon leaving our facility.

How Quickly Might I See the Results of the Treatment on My Face?

Initial relaxing of the musculature may begin in as little as 24 to 48 hours and the full effect should be complete after 2 weeks. This is why we wait 14 days before any “touch-up” treatment will be performed.

How Often Should I Schedule Treatments?

Although the results can last up to four months, when receiving BOTOX® treatments at Laser Skin & Wellness, we recommend that our patients schedule their first three appointments twelve weeks apart. After that, the following treatments can be scheduled at sixteen weeks. By using this schedule, we can perform follow-up treatments before the muscles have the chance to regain full movement, aiding in the prevention of additional wrinkles and potentially needing less product to maintain optimal results.

What is the difference between Dysport® and BOTOX®?

We offer both products because they provide our patients with similar lasting results and some patients prefer one over the other. Some patients might try the other product based on special pricing or a friend’s recommendation. We feel confident that you will be happy with the results we provide with either product.
