MedSpa Quiz: Laser vs. Injectibles. Which treatment is right for you? (Visit)

PRP Therapy is a popular treatment that utilizes the patient’s own blood cells to rejuvenate and enhance the skin. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is the body’s main line of defense in the repair and healing process. The plasma in the PRP stimulates the patient’s stem cells naturally and “wakes them up” causing them to produce more collagen, leading to a healthier, younger-looking appearance. PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is considered to be the next generation in PRP Therapy. PRF contains very high concentrations of fibrin, white blood cells and a small amount of stem cells found in our bloodstreams. The PRF is then placed into a bio-incubator and after 15 to 20 minutes becomes a gel-like substance ready to be injected into the face or body.  Side effects are practically nonexistent because the body is unlikely to reject its own blood.

How it Works

The treatment begins by applying a topical numbing cream on the face. Then blood is drawn from the patient’s arm. A centrifuge then separates the red and white blood cells from the plasma and platelets. This fluid is the PRP, which has a higher concentration of platelets. Next, an esthetician performs the microneedling portion of the treatment while she applies PRP all over the skin. The microneedling device pushes the PRP into the skin. The growth factors in PRP help the body’s natural healing process, filling the micro-channels with new collagen and elastin for improved skin.  At Laser Skin & Wellness we then have our Physicians Assistants or Nurse Practitioners inject the most concentrated form of the PRP or PRF into the areas of the face that need the most correction.

Who is a Candidate?

Candidates for PRP and PRF Therapy are those who want to enhance their skin with minimal invasion or recovery time. Those who have tried traditional microneedling before and loved the results often decide to try adding PRP to the microneedling treatment for added benefits. PRF is a natural alternative to traditional facial fillers. Whether it’s a specific concern like fine lines, acne scars, large pores, or for overall facial rejuvenation, PRP and PRF are effective solution with no downtime required.

What Can I Expect Afterward?

After PRP and PRF, patients may have some swelling and redness but typically there is no downtime and most patients feel comfortable enough to go out the same day. You should avoid exposure to direct sunlight for about a week.

Many patients report feeling instantly smoother skin after the treatment, but the real results of this treatment will take some time. After PRP and PRF with microneedling, your body will begin to produce new collagen, the framework for younger-looking, beautiful skin. Gradually damaged skin cells will be replaced with new ones to help smooth out fine lines and scarring.  Treatments can be repeated once every 4-6 weeks until the desired result is achieved.
